Shame. Numbness.
You want to stop. But how?

Let me share a secret: fasting is one of the quickest ways to reset — spiritually, mentally, emotionally.

Not Just “Not Eating”

When we hear “fasting,” most people think of skipping food. And yes that’s a powerful part of it. But it’s not just about emptying your plate. It’s about filling your spirit.

You see, when you’re in a binge, your soul feels foggy. You’re heavy. Distant from God. But a fast, especially from food sharpens your spirit. It weakens the flesh and creates space for God to speak. That’s why Scripture says:

Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.

Matthew 4:4

When you fast, don’t just skip meals, replace them.

With worship. With Scripture. With prayer. With silence.

This is not the time to scroll Instagram or binge Netflix to distract yourself from hunger. You’re not just starving your body — you’re retraining your soul.

You’re saying to God:

“I want You more than I want food. I want You more than I want comfort.”

And trust me, that heart cry? It moves heaven.

Fasting Beyond Food

Sometimes the thing that needs to go isn’t food.

It’s the first 30 minutes of your morning on your phone.

It’s the hours you waste on social media feeding your mind with images, noise, and comparison.

It’s the show that always puts you in a weird headspace.

What you feed will grow.

If you feed the flesh, it will grow louder. But if you feed your spirit, your hunger for righteousness will grow.

From Spiral to Reset

Fasting is not just about what you deny — it’s about what you run to.

When you feel stuck in sin, don’t wait till you feel “holy” again. Fast. Pull away. Pray. Worship.

Don’t just lie there in shame. Do something radical. Pull away from the noise and lean into God. That’s how you get up again.

✍🏽 Reflection

What’s one thing you need to fast from this week?

Food?
